“OceanGuard is attractive, durable and energy-efficient,” says Ray Bowen, Gulf Coast Supply’s Director of Sales and Corporate Development, who has been with the company for 12 years

Bowen’s key points regarding the new roofing product’s durability include:

Setbacks – There is no specific setback requirement regarding distance from breaking surf or salt-water shoreline.

Saltwater – OceanGuard has a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty.

Coating – Kynar 500, known for its color retention, offers superior weatherability and resistance to corrosion.

Yet, for all of its inherent advantages, Bowen said OceanGuard is still cost-effective. He noted that metal roofing is longer lasting compared to shingles and has a higher re-sale value. Plus, it’s more energy-efficient – “a lot higher reflectively” – which is especially important in Florida, he said. Also, “Metal has one of the highest wind ratings,” he added.

And, finally, Bowen called OceanGuard “environmental conscious” because it’s ‘100 percent recyclable,” as well as being made from partially recycled material.

For Charlie Dickens, it’s the best of times. A life-long Floridian, Dickens was born in Fernandina Beach, just north of Jacksonville. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 1979 with a business degree. Prior to GCS, he had considerable experience in the home supply industry, including training managers and sales staff.

Now he’s managing his own location: The 7,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 14480 NW US Highway 441, Alachua, FL, 32615, which is just off Interstate 75, less than 20 miles from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and is well-suited to expedite delivery and service to Central Florida, one of the state’s key population centers.

“My goal as a manger is to want the customer to walk through the facility and say: They know what they’re doing,” Dickens said. “You want people to see that the employees care, and we do.”
