Code Updates:
2017 Florida Building Code effective date: 31 December 2017
For all customers permitting projects in the state of Florida, be advised that the new FBC will become effective on 31 December. The updated code can be viewed via the link in Codes and Other Resources. A comparison of the new and old code can be viewed here. The changes to chapter 15 are fairly minor:
- Underlayment requirements are now grouped into a single table (1507.1.1).
- Synthetic underlayments will require metal cap nails (aka tin tabs) in wind speed zones of 150MPH or greater (1507.1.1).
- Manufacturers must operate under a quality assurance program that is audited by an approved third party entity (1507.4). We have been and will continue to be audited by Keystone Certifications, which is an approved auditing agency.
